These conditions were distinct in that they involved axial joints, were associated with the HLA-B27 haplotype, had a frequent family history of these diseases, and were rheumatoid factor negative. Traditionally the specifically named spondyloarthropathies included ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, the arthropathy of inflammatory bowel disease, and Reiter disease.
