TY - CHAP M1 - Book, Section TI - Disorders of Tyrosine Metabolism A1 - Grompe, Markus A2 - Kline, Mark W. PY - 2018 T2 - Rudolph's Pediatrics, 23e AB - The tyrosine degradation pathway consists of 5 enzymes, and inherited disorders have been described for 4 of these. Importantly, not all defects are characterized by hypertyrosinemia, and disease pathologies are not all caused by elevated tyrosine levels. Furthermore, hypertyrosinemia is not specific for disorders of the tyrosine degradation pathway. It can also be found in other conditions such as transient tyrosinemia of the preterm newborn, scurvy, and many diseases that cause hepatocellular injury.
