A second species, Blastomyces gilchristii, has been recently identified from regions in Ontario, Wisconsin, and Minnesota known to be hyperendemic for blastomycosis. Blastomycosis is rare in children, and the infection is often difficult to detect unless considered in the differential diagnosis.
